Baseball Travels to UT Arlington for Three-Game Set

Red Storm to play the Mavericks for the first time since 2004
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will make its way down to the Lone Star State for a weekend series at UT Arlington. This is the first time the two programs will meet since the 2004 season.
First pitch on Friday is set for 7 p.m. ET from Clay Gould Ball Park. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET / and the series will wrap up on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. All three games will air on the WAC International Network and live stats will be available on redstormsports.com.
The St. John's-UT Arlington series dates back to 1986, with both programs winning two games apiece. This weekend series marks the first series played nearly 40 years to the day. In a three-game set, the Johnnies took the first ever series from March 18-20, 1986. The last time the two met was in 2004 in Arlington as the Mavericks came out on top 17-5.
Adam Agresti was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday and has been red hot from the plate. He belted a two-run homer in four straight games, totaling five throughout the week. None were more significant than last Wednesday's, as the redshirt sophomore walked off Marist.
Agresti leads the team in home runs (8) and RBIs (20), while boasting a 1.074 OPS. The Yorktown, N.Y., native ranks 32nd in the country in the long ball category and second in the BIG EAST. His eight home runs are the most by a Johnnie through the first 19 games of the season in 20 years.
Last weekend, St. John's traveled to Charlotte, N.C., for a three-game series against Charlotte at Hayes Stadium.
In the series opener on March 13, the Red Storm defeated the 49ers, 8-6. Agresti powered the offense, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and a career-high six RBIs, extending his home run streak to four games. Shaun McMillan added a two-RBI double, while Jon LeGrandeswiped two bases and scored three runs. On the mound, Liam O'Leary tossed 6.0 strong innings, striking out five and allowing just one earned run to earn his first win of the season, while Victor Frederick recorded the save.
On March 14, the Johnnies secured the series victory with a 3-2 win over Charlotte. Agresti stayed hot at the plate, blasting a two-run home run for his fifth straight game with a long ball. LeGrande paced the lineup with a 3-for-4 performance and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Evan Chaffee delivered a quality start, allowing two runs over 6.0 innings, while Dylan Johnson closed the door late to earn his second save of the season.
St. John's closed the weekend on Sunday with a 10-9 loss in the series finale. The Red Storm jumped out to an early lead with a four-run second inning and later reclaimed the lead in the ninth when Jack Tate delivered a pinch-hit RBI double. Lewis Rodriguez went a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish with a run and an RBI, while LeGrande, Jayder Raifstanger and McMillan each recorded two hits and drove in a run. The 49ers responded with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the Johnnies and avoid the sweep.
The Johnnie pitching staff has shut down opposing batters is allowing just 8.36 hits per nine innings, the best mark in the BIG EAST and 72nd in the nation. Chaffee ranks third in the BIG EAST allowing just 1.93 walks per nine innings, while O'Leary ranks fifth with just 2.12. Defensively, the Red Storm boast a .978 fielding percentage, leading the conference and ranking 58th nationally.
