St. John’s Set to Host No.19/RV Rutgers on Tuesday

The Johnnies and Scarlet Knights square off for 32nd time
QUEENS, N.Y. – After dropping its latest two contests against Lafayette and Bryant, the St. John's lacrosse team are aiming to get back in the win column when they host No. 19/RV Rutgers at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium.
Tuesday's contest will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kevin Connelly and Johnny Gadamowitz on the call. Live stats will be available on RedStormSports.com.
The Red Storm fell to Bryant, 11–7, on Saturday afternoon at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium. After trailing 8–2 at halftime, the Red Storm mounted a strong third-quarter rally, cutting the deficit to two behind a career-high three goals from Mitch Campbell earning him a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the first time in his career.
Owen Rogers added two goals while Matt Nelson recorded 11 saves in net. Bryant pulled away in the fourth quarter, holding St. John's scoreless to secure the victory.
The Johnnies continue to be of the nation's top man-down defensive units, ranking 14th nationally with an .813 success rate. Opponents have converted on just three of 16 extra-man opportunities against the Red Storm this season. St. John's has held opponents scoreless on the man advantage in their first three games and have allowed just one extra-man goal in each of the last three contests.
No. 19/RV Rutgers enters Tuesday's matchup with a 5–2 record after falling to No. 3/3 Princeton, 20–9, on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights had previously won three straight contests over Hofstra, LIU and Villanova and opened the season with a 12–11 overtime victory against Jacksonville before dropping a matchup with then-No. 12/12 Army.
The offense is led by junior attackman Colin Kurdyla, an All-America Honorable Mention and Second Team All-Big Ten selection, who paces the team with 25 points on 15 goals and 10 assists. Kurdyla has also been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
Redshirt-sophomore Greyson Vorgang has also made an impact with 20 points (15 goals, five assists) and has recorded multi-goal performances in five of Rutgers' seven games this season. Meanwhile, 2025 First Team All-Big Ten goalkeeper Cardin Stoller anchors the defense, posting 77 saves and a 10.67 goals-against average on 268 shots faced.
St. John's and Rutgers have met 31 times in program history, making the Scarlet Knights one of the Red Storm's most frequently faced non-conference opponents. Rutgers leads the all-time series, 25–6, and has won each of the last 10 meetings between the programs.
The Red Storm's last victory in the series came in 2013, while the most recent matchup saw Rutgers secure a 21–11 win on March 11, 2025, in Piscataway, N.J.
