St. John’s to Travel to Rutgers for Tuesday Tilt

Red Storm and the Scarlet Knights will face off for 84th meeting all-time
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will continue on the road, traveling to Rutgers for an out-of-conference midweek on Tuesday night at Bainton Field.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in Queens. Fans can watch the game on the Big Ten Network.
St. John's (20-19, 7-2 BIG EAST) secured a BIG EAST series win over UConn, taking two of three games in a weekend defined by strong pitching and late-game execution. The Red Storm opened with a 4-0 victory behind Liam O'Leary's complete-game shutout, as the right-hander scattered four hits and the offense capitalized in the later innings with contributions from Ayden Frey, Jayder Raifstanger and Jon LeGrande. St. John's then clinched the series with a dramatic 6-5 comeback win in Saturday's opener, rallying for three runs in the ninth inning behind key hits from Lewis Rodriguez, LeGrande and Shaun McMillan, while the bullpen combined to lock down the finish. In the finale, however, UConn avoided the sweep with a 10-0 run-rule win, jumping out early and capitalizing on miscues while holding the Johnnies' offense scoreless.
St. John's saw two players earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors, as Liam O'Leary was named Pitcher of the Week and Lewis Rodriguez landed on the Weekly Honor Roll, marking the first time since 2018 that two Johnnies have been recognized in three straight weeks. O'Leary highlighted the week with a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over UConn, allowing just four hits without issuing a walk while improving to 5-3 and lowering his ERA to 2.57. Rodriguez also played a key role on the week, starting all four games and batting .500 (6-for-12) with three runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases. The junior while made key defensive contributions and helped spark a late comeback that secured the series victory over UConn.
Following its series victory over UConn, St. John's moved into second place in the BIG EAST standings. The Red Storm ranks second in the conference with a .974 fielding percentage (85th nationally) and two shutouts (57th), while also placing third in WHIP (1.53) and hits allowed per nine innings (9.06), and fourth in ERA (5.57). At the plate, St. John's has thrived in situational opportunities, ranking second in the league with 18 sacrifice bunts and third with 18 sacrifice flies. The Johnnies also sit second in the conference with 67 stolen bases (76th nationally) and rank third with an average of 1.72 steals per game (82nd).
Individually, O'Leary ranks second in the BIG EAST with a 2.57 ERA (57th nationally) and five wins (80th), while owning the conference's only two nine-inning complete games (fourth nationally). Adam Agresti is second in the league with 14 home runs (26th nationally), averaging 0.36 per game (42nd) with a .711 slugging percentage (39th). Rodriguez leads the BIG EAST and ranks 16th nationally with eight sacrifice bunts, averaging 0.21 per game (36th), while LeGrande sits third in the conference with 15 stolen bases, averaging 0.42 per game.
