The St. John's softball team was named the Storm Tracker Champion for the 2005-06 academic school year. The team finished with 3,466 points, narrowly defeating the women's golf team who had 3,380.
Lambertson Hosts Annual Teach To Fight ALSSophomore Brittany Lambertson has raised more than $20,000 for ALS.
Sophomore women's golfer Brittany Lambertson (Northport, N.Y.) will host the fourth annual "Teach To Fight ALS" fundraiser at the Indian Head Golf Park in Kings Park, N.Y., on Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The fundraiser will feature golf lessons from Lambertson, as well as other local golf professionals, with proceeds going to the ALS research foundation and the SaveDaveNow Foundation.
Thirteen Red Storm First-Year Student-Athletes Inducted Into Phi Eta Sigma National Honor SocietyJulianna Cohen was one of nine Red Storm student-athletes to post a perfect 4.0 grade point average last fall.
Last week the St. John's Student Development for Athletes unit, in conjunction with the University Freshman Center, inducted 13 first-year student-athletes into the University's chapter of Phi Eta Sigma national freshman honor society. The freshmen received the honor after earning a grade point average of 3.5 or better in their first semester at St. John's.

Unlike most college students who head for warm weather and sunny shores during their spring break, three Red Storm student-athletes along with more than 200 St. John's students traveled to the Hurricane Katrina devastated region of New Orleans. The students volunteered their time and efforts with Campus Crusades, a Christian organization.
Sophomores Ben Shuleva and Jeff Stepan of the men's soccer team, along with Caitlin Rimgaila of the women's volleyball team spent the week cleaning out and tearing down houses that could not be salvaged. They also spent time with the survivors and others who have devoted their time to help rebuild New Orleans.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student Development for Athletes is sponsoring the fifth-annual "Wash Your Mouth Out Week" in accordance with the University's weeklong dedication to civility. This year's slogan is "Remember...Little Ears Are Listening."
"I think it is a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to support important initiative," said Dr. Nancy Kaplan, Associate Vice President for Academic Services. "Their participation in this event shows a true understanding of the values of our university."

With help from the St. John's Athletic Department and University Freshman Center, troops deployed overseas have been able to show off their Red Storm pride. Drew Lyons and his medic platoon, the Charlie Company Conquerors, were sent athletics shirts and hats just in time for the men's basketball game against Duke (Dec. 21).
"My guys get excited about stuff like this," said Lyons. "They're from the Syracuse area and that's all they talk about, so I love when I get the chance to talk about St. John's." Read more

Members of the St. John's softball team took a short break from practicing for the upcoming season to take part in a Midnight Run. On the evening of Feb. 2, the team braved the frigid weather and hit the streets of Manhattan, giving out food and clothing to the needy. "I am proud of our girls for the extensive lengths they go to in helping the community," said assistant coach Kathy Freaney. "This is a group that recognizes how fortunate they are and have an awareness of how many people go without." Read more
Student Athletes Participate in Annual Blood DriveSophomores Laura Sudano and Lisa Tedder of the women's volleyball team, along with several other student-athletes, volunteered and donated at this January's blood drive.
On Wednesday, Jan. 25 St. John's student-athletes volunteered at the Athletic Department sponsored blood drive held in Carnesecca Arena. Athletes from various sports assisted New York Blood Center workers with registration and at the fueling station, as well as donating. The blood drive gave the St. John's community the opportunity to help the less fortunate. St. John's more than doubled its donations from last January's drive and surpassed the events goal, which was 85 pints. At the end of the day, 114 pints of whole blood were donated. Read more
Red Storm Basketball Serves Brooklyn Community At St. John's Bread And Life Soup KitchenMen's basketball coach Norm Roberts, University Vice President for Student Affairs Fr. James Maher and the Red Storm team served many at the Bread and Life Soup Kitchen on Wednesday.
The Red Storm men's basketball team made its annual Thanksgiving trip to the St. John's Bread and Life Soup Kitchen on Wednesday, serving turkey dinners to nearly 450 Brooklyn area residents. Head coach Norm Roberts, the Red Storm team and coaching staff were joined by University benefactors Eleanor and Donald Taffner, and also Bruce Beck of NBC 4 and his family. "It is always good to come out and support the community, and to give back to others that are less fortunate," said Roberts. Read more

Before the Thanksgiving holiday, St. John's student-athletes from men and women's tennis, women's soccer, softball, women's golf and men's fencing teams visited the Ozanam Nursing Home for a night of bingo. The athletes assisted the residents with filling in their cards in the friendly competition. Read more

"A Night in Solidarity with the Homeless" was the name of the program and it allowed the students to experience a glimpse of what it meant to be homeless and live on the streets. Men's Lacrosse Team Visits Momma's HouseSeven members of the St. John's men's lacrosse team volunteered their time and services at Momma's House on Long Island this past October.
Seven members of the St. John's men's lacrosse team volunteered their time and services at Momma's House on Long Island this past October. Sophomores Kyle Brant, Felix Forbes, Michael Luyster, Ryan Milford and Dave Saccente along with freshmen Patrick McClay and Drew Schanen spent the day painting the exterior of the house and moving heavy items. Momma's House is a charitable organization designed to help young mothers and their babies. Momma's house places young mothers and their children into homes for approximately one year, giving those mothers the opportunity and support needed to continue to care for their children. Read more
St. John's Softball Gives Back To CommunityThe St. John's softball team dressed up for Halloween and a visit to St. Mary's childrens hospital.
The team did several activities during the month of October.
The St. John's University softball team has been giving back to the community in a big way. In the last month, the Red Storm has taken part in three charitable events. To kick off the month's community service outreach, the softball team helped raise $200 for the St. John's Breast Cancer Walk. The entire team was on hand to take part in the walk on Oct. 16., along with other members of the St. John's community. The team closed out October with its annual trip to the St. Mary's Children Hospital. Each year the Red Storm visits the children of St. Mary's in hopes of giving them a true Halloween experience. St. John's Norm Roberts will join several other coaches from the collegiate ranks at the NYC Coaches for Hurricane Katrina Relief Clinic on Saturday, October 8 at St. Raymond's High School in the Bronx. Speakers at the coaches clinic include Hofstra's Tom Pecora (10 a.m.), NC State's Herb Sendek (11:20 a.m.), Roberts at 3 p.m., Fordham's Derek Whittenberg (4:20 p.m.) and Columbia's Joe Jones (5:35 p.m.). On Tuesday, Oct. 4 student-athletes from all Red Storm varsity teams, including the cheerleading and dance teams, participated in the fourth-annual campus Fun Run. The walk around campus was established to promote awareness of St. John's University's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walkathon. Read more
St. John's And The Baseball Community Help Fight Crohn's & ColitisSt. John's baseball took part in the "Mets Strike Out Crohn's & Colitis" event to help heighten awareness of the disease.
When a player falls to injury, or in this case, illness, the reaction of his friends, family and teammates can be a very special thing. For St. John's baseball player Matt Tosoni, his supporters and about 40,000 others gathered in recognition of him and the over 140,000 other young people in America who suffer from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. They met at Shea Stadium before the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves game last month for the "Mets Strike Out Crohn's & Colitis" event. Read more

St. John's held its fourth annual University Service Day on Saturday, Sept. 24, and Red Storm athletes, coaches and athletics department personnel were out in full force to lend a hand. Student-athletes representing many of St. John's athletic teams reached out to several area groups as part of a day dedicated to helping others and giving back to the community. Amazing Orientation Educates New Student-Athletes
The St. John's University Department of Student Development for Athletes hosted New Student-Athlete Orientation, August 29. The new student-athletes experienced a day-long program that helped them become accustomed to the life of a St. John's student-athlete. The student-athletes were assigned to orientation teams, different from their athletic squads, in an attempt to ensure social development among the new student-athletes. Each orientation team was led by two upper-class student-athletes who volunteered his or her time to help out the incoming class. Read More

Women's Soccer And Volleyball Teams Host GoGirlGo! Nights
The St. John's women's soccer and volleyball teams participated in the national GoGirlGo! initiative in September in an effort to help promote physical fitness among girls between the ages of 8 and 18. Red Storm volleyball hosted a GoGirlGo! Night for its Sept. 6 game against Manhattan College, and women's soccer for its Sept. 30 conference showdown with Georgetown. GoGirlGo! is a national initiative designed to help girls make physical activity part of their lives. The mission of the GoGirlGo! campaign is get one million girls between the ages of 8 and 18 physically active over the next three years. Read More
