Greene Defends Title At Annual STJ Cross Country Fall Festival

QUEENS, N.Y. - With a career-best 4K time of 13:53.65, senior Tyneka Greene defended her championship title at St. John's annual Fall Festival, held at Cunningham Park on Sunday.
The Red Storm placed first out of the five Division I teams in the event with 21 points, their second-best overall point total this season. Fordham finished second with 34 points.
Out of the 44 individual runners, scoring for St. John's were Greene with her first-place time, followed by runner-up freshman Aryon Trujillo with a time of 14:21.56 and the trio of freshman Nicole Cocozza, sophomore Sarah Sudbury and junior Pamela Petruski coming in fifth, sixth and seventh, running in between a pack of runners from Fordham University.
Cocozza finished with a time of 14:30.50, while Sudbury finished at 14:35.07, defeating her last season's time of 14:56. Petruski also beat her time from last season (15:04) with another seventh-place finish at 14:39.84.
Also running for St. John's, senior Rakibat Abiola and junior Sarah Fry paired up to finish 15th and 16th with times of 15:27.52 and 15:28.78, respectively.
Sophomores Lori Dougherty, Katrina Schaefer and Kim Piard finished 19th, 30th, and 31st, while their fellow classmates Ashlee Payne, Rene Cousins and Lauren Wynter came in 36th, 41st and 43rd.
With next weekend off, St. John's will be in action again at the BIG EAST Championships hosted by the Red Storm at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, N.Y., on Oct. 31.
