Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. on Pirate Sports Network
Following a 2-1 win over Butler on Sunday afternoon, the St. John's women's soccer team will return to action on Saturday, as they travel to South Orange, N.J., for a showdown with Seton Hall. The contest will be live streamed on Pirate Sports Network.
Unbeaten in its last two matches, St. John's (6-7-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) enters its contest with the Pirates (2-8-4, 0-5-0 BIG EAST) after capitalizing in a crucial win over second-place Butler. With a pair of goals against the Bulldogs, St. John's is the only BIG EAST team to score on and beat Butler on the season.
The Red Storm's leading scorer Zsani Kajan registered both goals for St. John's against the Bulldogs to earn herself a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The redshirt sophomore's game winning strike that put the Johnnies past the Bulldogs was named BIG EAST top play of the week. With nine scores and 20 points over the 2018 campaign, Kajan ranks second overall in the league in both statistical categories. The Budapest, Hungary, native has been a key component to the Red Storm's potent offense, recording two multi-goal games. In addition, she has tallied three shots in 13 of her 14 contests over this season.
Mecara Bruce, the Red Storm's veteran defender has played every minute of every game so far this season. The Bordentown, N.J., native displayed a stellar effort in the Johnnies' undefeated week. Her pinnacle moment came in the 107th minute of the squad's double overtime scoreless draw with Providence. The 5-foot-5 senior made a stellar block to prevent the Friars from finding the back of the net.
Having allowed just one goal in back-to-back contests, Meredith Reinhardt is coming off of her fifth win of the fall slate. The Arizona transfer is currently averaging four saves per contest and is coming off of a stellar effort between the pipes for the Red Storm. Reinhardt's key moment of the week came against Butler, when the redshirt sophomore stopped what would have been a game-tying penalty kick with less than 13 minutes remaining in the match.
The Pirates enter play with a record of 2-8-4, as they are still in search of their first BIG EAST win. Seton Hall closed out the opening half of league play scoring in its final two games. Seton Hall is currently seven points out of the playoff picture, the Pirates will need to turn the corner and pick up a few wins to get back in the postseason conversation.
Seton Hall is led on the offensive end by junior forward Siobhan McGovern, who has tallied a pair of goals on the season. Between the pipes, senior Anna MacLean averages nearly five saves per contest, with three outings of six or more for Seton Hall.
Saturday's meeting will mark the 24th time in the history of the two programs that St. John's and Seton Hall have squared off on the pitch. The Red Storm holds a 17-5-1 advantage all-time over the Pirates, including a 1-0 win over Seton Hall in their last meeting at Belson Stadium on Oct. 14, 2017.
