Â
Sunday's contest will serve as the program's annual Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Red Storm will recognize the contributions of six St. John's student athletes in their final year with the squad.
Â
The Johnnies are riding high entering their final home contest of the regular season, coming off a 4-3 overtime victory at Villanova on Thursday evening. Down 3-1 with just 30 minutes remaining in regulation, Zsani Kajan and Samantha Masur both punched in a pair of goals for the Red Storm to force overtime. Kajan needed just 25 seconds in extra time to seal the victory, as the Budapest, Hungary, native buried it home for the win.
Â
Kajan delivered a hat trick in the team's victory for the second such effort of her Red Storm career. The Johnnies' forward joins former St. John's standout Rachel Daly as one of only two players in program history to record multiple three-goal outings. The redshirt junior paces the Red Storm with nine tallies this season to rank third in the BIG EAST. Five of Kajan's goals have come during conference play.Â
Â
Creighton enters Sunday's contest with an 8-6-2 record, posting a 2-3-2 mark in league action. The Bluejays rank eighth in the conference with eight points while the Johnnies are sitting in ninth with six points. Both programs are in need of a win to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Â
Creighton is led offensively by freshman Skylar Heinrich and sophomore Ansley Atkinson. Heinrich ranks second in the league for goals with 10 and third in points with 22. Atkinson paces the Bluejays in assists with six, good enough to rank sixth in the conference.
Â
Freshman Keelan Terrel and sophomore Katie Sullivan have both seen minutes between the pipes for the Bluejays this season. Sullivan boasts a 7-3-1 record and has picked up all four of Creighton's shutouts.
Â
Creighton enters play with the Johnnies on the heels of a 1-0 victory at Seton Hall on Thursday. The Bluejays' Jaylin Bosak drove home the team's game-winning goal against the Pirates.
Â
Sunday will mark the eighth all-time meeting between the Bluejays and Red Storm, with the Johnnies bosting a 4-2-1 advantage. St. John's has won back-to-back contests against Creighton, including a 2-1 victory last season.
