St. John’s looks to end its three-game losing streak with a win on Tuesday
QUEENS, N.Y. – After losing its second-straight game on the road this season to Hofstra on Tuesday, the St. John's lacrosse team returns to DaSilva Memorial Field, for a Tuesday afternoon showdown with Dartmouth.
Coverage of Tuesday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with Ralph Bednarczyk on the call from Queens.
The contest will mark the first of four-straight home games for the Johnnies, as the Red Storm looks to end its losing skid with a win on Tuesday.
Hofstra's victory over St. John's (2-4), last Tuesday marked the Red Storm's third-straight loss and second loss on the road this season.
Mike Madsen led the Johnnies (2-3) offensively, finishing with a goal and two assists. Colin Duffy and Joe Madsen led St. John's, scoring two goals apiece against the Pride. Declan Swartwood and Chris Buscemi also finished with two points, each scoring a goal and dishing one assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Brody Agres recorded 12 saves in the loss against Hofstra.
Four different Johnnies lined up at the X for faceoffs on Tuesday night. Colin Bosak and Joseph Fitzpatrick each won two faceoffs for the Red Storm.
Tuesday's showdown will mark the sixth game of the season for the Big Green, and the fourth away from home. Dartmouth is coming off of an 11-7 victory over Binghamton on Saturday. The Big Green's first win of the season came in their third game of the season against Wagner on March 2.
The Big Green is led in scoring by sophomore Matt Paul with 11 goals and four assists while Ben Martin now has eight goals and eight assists. Sophomore George Prince has eight goals and five assists while junior Harlan Smart has tallied seven goals and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Hincks has a 9.07 goals against average with 62 saves and a .585 save percentage.
Brendan Callahan is currently in his fifth season as head coach of the Dartmouth men's lacrosse program. Callahan came to Hanover after spending seven years as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Lehigh. He helped guide Lehigh to three consecutive league championship game appearances (2012-14), back-to-back Patriot League Championships as well as berths in the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and 2013.
The Big Green wrapped up its 2018 season by going 2-11 overall. They opened the season on a high note with a 13-12 victory over Canisius at home. Dartmouth's second win was another close one; a 9-8 victory over Wagner.
Dartmouth and St. John's will be meeting for just the second time in series history on Tuesday. The Johnnies won the inaugural contest of the series last year at DaSilva Memorial Field, 12-5, on March 17.
