St. John’s Drops Road Contest to Siena, 18-10

The Red Storm loses its first road contest of the season, fall to 2-3 on the year.
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The St. John's lacrosse team dropped its second-straight contest on Saturday, losing to the Siena Saints, 18-10, in Loudonville, N.Y.
Mike Madsen and Declan Swartwood led the way offensively for St. John's (2-3), as both midfielders ended the day with three points. Swartwood, as well as Colin Duffy and Joe Madsen, scored two goals against the Saints. Mike Madsen scored a goal in the fourth quarter and dished two assists.
In total, nine Johnnies tallied points in the contest, including a goal from Luke Roediger in the third quarter which marked the first of his senior season.
Freshman goalkeeper Brody Agres recorded a career-high 15 saves and picked up four groundballs in the loss.
Six different Johnnies lined up at the X for faceoffs on Saturday. Colin Bosak, Roediger, and Paul Tornatore each won four faceoffs, combining for 12 of the team's 13 faceoff wins.
For the first time this season, the Red Storm didn't open the contest with the first goal. Siena's Eric Munn scored the first goal of the game at the 13:51 mark in the opening quarter. Siena built a comfortable lead, ending the first quarter with a 6-2 lead. All six goals were scored by different players on the Siena squad.
The Red Storm and the Saints played a physical, defensive second period, only allowing three combined goals. Siena used two more goals from Keenan Cook in the period to build its lead to 8-3 at the break. Matt Oehl scored the Johnnies' lone goal of the period, the second of his junior season.
The Saints started the second half red-hot, outscoring the Johnnies in the third period, 6-3. Siena scored five of the first six goals of the period. Five of the six goals in the third quarter were tallied by different Siena goal scorers. Jack Kiernan scored two of his four goals in the quarter.
With the score at 14-6 in favor of the Saints, the Red Storm was unable to pull off a dramatic comeback. The Johnnies and the Saints traded two goals each to start the quarter. Siena never allowed the Johnnies to score more than two consecutive goals throughout the game. The Johnnies were able to cut the deficit to 16-9 but Siena scored two late goals to seal the Red Storm's fate.
The Johnnies were never able to get into a rhythm on offense against Siena and were outshot by their opponent, 53-35. Siena took advantage of most 50-50 balls, picking up 41 of the 67 total groundballs.
Siena attackman Keenan Cook led the team with four goals and six points. Eric Munn finished with two goals and three assists for the Saints.
St. John's will look to end its two-game losing streak Tuesday night in Hempstead, N.Y., as the Johnnies face local rival, Hofstra, at 7p.m.
