St. John’s looks to win its first conference game since the 2016 season
QUEENS, N.Y. – After losing its second conference game of the season on Saturday to Marquette, 12-8, the St. John's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday at DaSilva Memorial Field to battle the Denver Pioneers on Senior Day.
Saturday's contest will mark the last time 10 seniors on the St. John's (4-7) roster will take the field at DaSilva Memorial Field. There will be a pregame ceremony on the field to honor the 10 seniors with their families. A victory on Saturday will mark the Red Storm's first BIG EAST win since April 30, 2016 and improve to 5-7 this season.

The Johnnies dropped its second BIG EAST contest of the season last Saturday, falling to the Marquette Golden Eagles, 12-8, at Marquette's Valley Fields.
Colin Duffy led the Red Storm (4-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) offensively, finishing with five goals. Joe Madsen scored two goals and dished out an assist in the losing effort.
Freshman goalkeeper Brody Agres recorded 13 saves in 60 minutes of action.
Colin Bosak and Joseph Fitzpatrick split the duties at the X for St. John's, winning only seven of the 22 total attempts. Bosak won six of his 17 faceoff tries for the Red Storm.
The Red Storm were outshot for only the fourth time this season, firing 38 shots compared to Marquette's 43.
Saturday's showdown will mark the 11th game of the season for the Pioneers, and their fifth game on the road. Denver heads into Saturday's matchup having lost its first conference game of the 2019 campaign to Villanova on April 6. On March 30, the Pioneers won its first BIG EAST contest of the season against Georgetown, 16-9.
The Pioneers are led in scoring by junior attackman Ethan Walker with 23 goals and nine assists while Ellis Geis has 17 goals. Sophomore Jack Hannah and senior Austin French are the top two facilitators for Denver, combining for 23 assists. Senior goalkeeper Alex Ready has an 8.86 goals against average with 83 saves and a .494 save percentage in 575 minutes of action this season.
Head Coach Bill Tierney took over the reins of the University of Denver men's lacrosse program in July 2009 after serving as the head coach at Princeton since the 1988 season. In his nine seasons at DU, Tierney has amassed an impressive 122-36 overall record and an even more impressive 48-4 conference mark.
One of collegiate lacrosse's legendary coaches, 2015 USILA Division I National Coach of the Year Bill Tierney captured his NCAA-record seventh National Championship in 2015, becoming the first coach to win National Championships in charge of two different programs while leading the University of Denver to the program's first national title in just his sixth year in charge of the Pioneers.
Saturday's contest will mark the sixth overall meeting between the two programs.
The Pioneers have won each of their five contests against the Johnnies, dating back to the 2014 campaign. In the last showdown between the two programs, St. John's fell to the Pioneers in Denver, 15-6.
After Saturday's contest with the Pioneers, the Johnnies will venture to the Pennsylvania to square off with BIG EAST rival Villanova on Saturday, April 21, at 1 p.m.
