The Red Storm has not dropped a BIG EAST series since the opening weekend of conference play in 2017. The Red Storm clinched its win over Butler in thrilling, unconventional fashion. Down 4-2 heading into the ninth inning, the Johnnies plated two runs in the frame to tie things up at four apiece. After Joe Kelly tossed a scoreless home half of the ninth, the two teams agreed to suspend the game due to darkness and resume the following day at noon. The Red Storm then used a single run in the top of the 11th to seal a 5-4 victory. Kelly tossed both innings on Sunday as well, striking out four across his three frames of work spanning two days.

Kelly struck out six over 5.2 scoreless innings of work on the week and allowed no runners to reach base on balls.
