Johnnies fall to 5-8 in BIG EAST play
OMAHA, Neb. (May 10, 2019) – Creighton took the opening contest of a crucial three-game set in convincing fashion on Friday night at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, topping the Johnnies by a score of 11-0.

The Red Storm (26-20, 5-8 BIG EAST) recorded just one fewer hit than they Bluejays (30-10, 10-3 BIG EAST), who scored their 11 runs on just seven base knocks. The Johnnies walked 10 batters and hit three others while two Bluejays reached base on fielding errors.

All six of the Red Storm's hits were singles. Carson Bartels, Brandon Miller, Wyatt Mascarella, Sean McGeehan, Mitchell Henshaw and Brandon Bossard recorded the base knocks for St. John's.

A costly throwing error gave Creighton the first two runs of the game with no outs in the bottom of the third. The Bluejays would add another tally before the inning was over, extending their lead to three heading into the fourth.

Creighton then added three runs in the fourth before a Will Holton grand slam highlighted a five-run fifth, making it 11-0 in favor of the Bluejays after five.

The Red Storm and the Bluejays will resume their three-game set tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. ET. Jeff Belge is scheduled to start for the Johnnies.
