The former BIG EAST rivals will meet for the first time since 2010
After claiming its home opener in thrilling fashion on Friday night against Yale, the St. John's women's soccer team will travel to Notre Dame for a 6 p.m. match on Sunday.
Â
The Johnnies enter their fourth contest of the season on the heels of an extra-time 2-1 win at Belson Stadium. In the victory over the Bulldogs, All-BIG EAST Preseason selection Zsani Kajan netted the golden goal in the 105th minute. This marked the second tally of the season for Kajan and the sixth game-winning goal in her Red Storm career.
Â
Freshman standout Isabelle Aviza accounted for the team's other goal on Friday night, as the Medway, Mass., native converted on a shot in the 31st minute, for the first of her collegiate career.
Â
In addition to Aviza, two other young and promising Johnnies etched their name on the stat sheet Friday evening, as Jessica Garziano and Sofia Ambrosio each registered an assist. Garziano has now picked up two helpers in three matches for the Red Storm.
Â
Redshirt freshman Naya Lipkens is coming off her first win between the pipes for St. John's. Following her eight-save effort on Friday night, the Bloomfield, Conn., native has made a combined 20 stops in three games so far this season to lead the league in saves.
Â
Sunday's contest with Notre Dame will mark the first meeting between the two teams in nearly nine years. The Johnnies and the Irish will showdown for the 14th time in the history of the two programs with the Red Storm looking for its first win in the series.
Â
Notre Dame enters Sunday night's contest with a 3-0-0 record on the year after downing Western Michigan, 2-1, on Thursday evening.
Â
The Irish have three players with multiple goals so far this year, as Eva Hurm, Luisa Delgado and Autumn Smithers have all tallied a brace on the young season. Junior midfielder Sammi Fisher also recorded a goal for Notre Dame, giving the Irish a combined seven goals through three matches.  Â
