The 4x400-meter relay team will seek a first-place finish for the third straight week
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2020) – The St. John's track & field team will look to continue its early-season success when the Johnnies travel to Boston University for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational this Friday.
The Red Storm will have 22 athletes competing across 16 events with the first event scheduled to fall underway at 11 a.m.
St. John's will take on a notable field featuring some of the nation's top teams, including LSU, Florida State and Auburn.
"Our whole team is excited to be making the trip to Boston this weekend," Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "The facility is one of the fastest in the country and our team is rolling after winning the Metropolitan Indoor Championship and the 4x400-meter relay at the Millrose Games. We look for a plethora of great performances from all of our event groups on Friday."
Leah Anderson, Avon Samuels, Skyy Diop and Brianna Burkley will participate in the 4x400-meter relay after taking first place at the Metropolitan Indoor Championships and the NYRR Millrose Games the last two weekends. The team recorded a mark of 3:42.63 at the 113th running of the Millrose Games, good enough for first place on the BIG EAST leaderboard this season. The time also ranks 74th in the country.
Anderson, Burkley and Samuels will also participate in the 200 and 400-meter races. Anderson holds the top marks in the conference for both events after registering a time of 24.23 in the 200 meters and a mark of 54.53 in the 400 meters at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge on Jan. 25.
Distance runners Grace Adolphe, Katherine Bruno, Claire Cushing, Kayla Parker and Chantai Smith will take part in the 800 meters while seniors Jackie Gallagher and Stephanie Gerland will participate in the mile.
Throwers Amarys Berry, Bernadette McGowan, Samantha Morillo, Ashley Walsh and Najeaya Singleton will each participate in the shot put. Berry captured a podium spot in the weight throw last weekend after earning third place at the Millrose Games with a distance of 16.36 meters.
Junior Antonia Frazier will be the lone Johnnie taking part in the 60-meter hurdles while Eleftheria Christogeorgou will participate in the high jump.
St. John's will kick off Friday's meet with the 60-meter hurdles scheduled to begin at 12:35 p.m. All of the action can be followed by clicking here.
