Glancy, Folz Anchor St. John’s to 21-1 Rout of Saint Peter’s

Glancy drove in more runs than any St. John’s player of the last 10 years
Making just the fourth start of his collegiate career, Glancy drove in more runs than any St. John's player in the last decade. The Neptune, N.J., native went 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, a sac fly and eight RBIs, becoming the first player to tally eight or more RBIs in a game since Paul Karmas recorded 10 on Feb. 21, 2010, against New Orleans.
On a normal day, Justin Folz would have dominated the headlines were it not for the exploits of his fellow first-year Johnnie. The junior third baseman out of Palomar Community College went 3-for-3 with a triple, a hit by pitch, three runs scored and five RBIs in his first game at The Jack.
Mike Antico logged a double in his lone official at-bat, but still managed to score four times after walking once and being hit by two pitches. The senior also swiped two bags to improve to 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts on the year.
Vinny Bianchi left the yard for the first time as a member of the Red Storm, scoring the team's 21st and final run with a solo shot in the eighth. Another St. John's freshman, Jake Lazzaro, went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in his first game at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
Brandon Miller knocked in two runs while Andrew DuPont and Colin Wetterau also added RBIs.
Marty Higgins and Tommy Papadopoulos recorded their first St. John's hits in the win.
Sonny Fauci was nothing short of brilliant in his Kaiser Stadium debut, throwing six innings of one-hit ball to register his first career win. He allowed one unearned run, walked one and struck out five. The Old Bridge, N.J., native threw 82 pitches, 49 of which were strikes.
Brandon Backman tossed a no-hit inning in the seventh before Brandyn Cruz twirled two frames of one-hit ball to seal the Red Storm two-hitter.
St. John's opened the scoring in a big way in the bottom of the first, plating six runs on four hits. The first five batters of the inning reached base, as Peter Abinanti, Carson Bartels and Antico walked to load the bases before Folz ripped a ball to center that cleared the bases, putting the Red Storm up 3-0 before the inning's first out had been recorded. Next up was Glancy, who lifted a two-run shot over the wall in left, bumping the St. John's to 5-0 still with no outs in the first. The Red Storm would add one more run before the close of the frame, as Lazzaro poked an RBI single to center, scoring Ryan Markey and making it a 6-0 game.
After Saint Peter's scored an unearned run to get on the board in the top of the second, Folz and Glancy provided the offensive fireworks again in the home half of the frame. Antico was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before stealing second and quickly coming home on a Folz three-bagger to center. Glancy then looped a sac fly to left, scoring Folz and putting the Johnnies ahead 8-1.
The Johnnies were kept off the board for the first time in the third before going for three more runs in the fourth. Antico led off the inning with a double before stealing third and coming home on a Folz RBI single through the right side. Glancy then doubled to put runners on second and third before Folz scored on a Wetterau sac fly and Glancy came home on an error by the right fielder, putting the Red Storm ahead 11-1 after four.
Glancy logged his third extra-base hit of the day, a bases-loaded ground rule double, to bring home two runs in the fifth, bumping the St. John's advantage to 13-1.
The Red Storm added two more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. DuPont drew a bases loaded walk and Folz hit a sac fly in the sixth before Miller smacked a two-RBI single in the seventh.
St. John's added on four runs for good measure in the eighth, as Glancy launched his second round-tripper of the day, this time of the three-run variety, before Bianchi, his high school teammate, added a solo shot later in the frame. DuPont and Papadopoulos singled to set up Glancy's home run.
The Red Storm will return to action at Jack Kaiser Stadium on Wednesday afternoon when it plays host to Iona. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will feature a free live stream on RedStormSports.com.
