Jonathan Huber tallies four goals for his season best
Villanova, PA. (Mar. 14, 2021) – The St. John's lacrosse team fell to the Villanova Wildcats in its third road game of the season on Sunday afternoon, 20-8.
Redshirt junior Jonathan Huber led the way for the Red Storm with four goals and a helper. Dylan Willis as well as Joe and Mike Madsen tallied one goal each for St. John's.
Sophomore Connor Kalmus collected his first career goal for the Johnnies. The Aquebogue, N.Y. native also picked up an assist on the afternoon.
Villanova had two players tally seven points, Patrick Daly scored five goals with two assists and Keegan Khan collected two goals and five helpers. Freshman Tucker Goodelle and junior Matt Campell each registered a hat trick for the Wildcats.
Huber helped put the Johnnies on the board first, scoring on a man-up opportunity in the first couple minutes of the game off an assist from Ryan Schaeffer. The Wildcats responded, finding the back of the net 13 times over the remainder of the half to take a 13-2 lead at the intermission.
Early in the second half, Willis faked out a Villanova defender and fired a low shot to the ground that bounced to the back of the net, making the score 14-3.
Just under a minute later, the Wildcats responded with a goal from Tucker Goodelle. Three different Johnnies found the back of the net over the next four minutes as Joe Madsen, Kalmus and Huber each registered a goal, cutting the Johnnies deficit down to nine, 15-6.
Huber added on two more in the final quarter of play, but it wasn't enough to help the Johnnies comeback as Villanova would tack on three more goals to its lead.
The Red Storm will return to DaSilva Memorial Field on Saturday, March 20, to host Marquette.
