Red Storm Sprinters Head to John Thomas Terrier Classic

St. John’s will send four student-athletes to Boston
QUEENS, N.Y.-Â Four members of the St. John's track and field team will travel to Boston to compete in the John Thomas Terrier Classic on the campus of Boston University. The meet is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m.Â

Leah Anderson, Skyy Diop, Avon Samuels and Tatyana McKenzie will face off against top competition from both the collegiate and professional ranks across three different events.Â

Anderson will look to secure her sixth individual win of the indoor season and her second straight victory in the 200-meter dash. The Mount Vernon, N.Y., native finished with a time of 24.11, last time out at the Villanova Indoor Meet.Â

For the second time this season, Diop will compete in the 400-meter dash. The senior out of Ontario, Canada, posted a second-place finish in her season debut with a time of 56.01.Â

Samuels will race in the 200-meter and 400-meter events. Samuels has recorded strong results this season, including a win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.74 at the MLK Tribute Meet on Jan. 17.Â

McKenzie will return to the track for the first time since Jan. 17 and run in the 400-meter dash. At the MLK Tribute Meet, the freshman sprinter made her collegiate debut and finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.01. All four student-athletes will compete as a team in the 4x400-meter relay.Â
