Patrick Ednie tallies first career hat-trick
LEWISBURG, Pa.- St. John's lacrosse fell in a road contest to RV/RV Bucknell, 23-7, on Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
Bucknell jumped out a quick lead, scoring five goals on its first six shots and never looked back in its first home game of the a season
The Bison were led by the NCAA's top freshman goal scorer, Connor Davis, who netted a game-high six goals.
Patrick Ednie scored his first career hat-trick for the Johnnies during Saturday's contest, increasing his team-high goal total to four in two games Brian Kelly contributed a pair of goals while Jack Lutfi and Corey Hall added one each.
Four different players registered assists on the afternoon: Kelly, Jonathan Huber, Dylan Willis and Jake Oemcke.
Bucknell (3-0) notched the game's first seven goals.
St. John's (0-2) got on the board early in the second quarter when Huber fielded a groundball and evaded the checks of three Bucknell defenders before lobbing a pass to Ednie, who fired in his first of three tallies.
A 3-0 Bucknell run ensued before Hall scored just his third-career goal from 60 yards out in St. John's own defensive zone.
Ednie added his second goal of the game on a helper from Kelly, with just 13 seconds remaining before the halftime break.
In the third period, Bucknell orchestrated a 9-0 run. The was run was halted when Oemcke tallied his first point of the season, finding a waiting Kelly after a face-off win midway through the quarter.
In the final 15 minutes, Lutfi fired one into the net despite contact for an unassisted goal and Willis tossed a pass into air that fell into the waiting stick of Ednie, who completed his hat-trick with just under five minutes to go.
Brody Agres made his first appearance this season for the Red Storm, teaming with freshman Kaden Quirk for a combined 12 saves between the pipes.
Next on the docket for the Johnnies is a pair of contests against local foes next week at Hofstra's James M. Shuart Stadium. St. John's will play Stony Brook on Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on either Hofstra/LIU on Sunday, Feb. 27.
