Tucker and Glancy tally three hits apiece on Friday night in Eugene
Two Johnnies tallied three-hit efforts in the series opener against the Ducks (2-3), as Jackson Tucker went 3-for-5 and David Glancy went 3-for-4 with a walk and a three-run homer. The round tripper was the first of the season for a Red Storm batter.
Carlos Hidalgo went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Marty Higgins singled and scored a run.
Kevin Michaels, a BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll selection on Monday, legged out a double in the top of the eighth.
Tate Ballestero picked up his third RBI of the season.
Ian Murphy was tagged with the loss for St. John's (1-4) after allowing five runs in 4.0 innings of work.
After utilizing a 1-6-3 double play to get out of a first-and-third jam in the opening frame, Oregon used a two-run homer off the bat Brennan Milone to take an early lead in the home half of the inning.
Another two-run shot, this time from Drew Cowley, anchored a three-run bottom of the second for Oregon, as the Ducks grabbed a 5-0 lead after two.
Both teams went scoreless until the top of the fifth, when a Chris Conniff walk and a Tucker base knock set up Glancy's three-run homer to bring the Johnnies within two, 5-3, after four and a half.
After Geoff Mosseau twirled a scoreless fifth, the Red Storm trimmed its deficit to one in the sixth. Higgins and Nick Cirelli tallied back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on the corners before Hidalgo pushed an RBI single through the right side. A productive groundout in the next at-bat gave St. John's runners on second and third, but a strikeout ended the threat and kept Oregon in front.
Oregon responded by plating five runs in the bottom of the sixth, pushing its lead to six, 10-4, heading into the seventh.
Tucker singled to lead off the seventh before coming around to score on a fielding error by the first baseman, cutting into the Oregon advantage and making it 10-5 at the stretch.
That was as close as the Johnnies would get, as the Ducks added 13 runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from the Red Storm.
The series between St. John's and Oregon will resume tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET.
