St. John’s Moves Past Georgetown, 4-3

Ryota Kaneda clinches the victory for the Red Storm
WASHINGTON D.C.- The St. John's men's tennis team edged Georgetown on the road, 4-3, in its final regular-season match of the year.
The Red Storm will head into the postseason with a 15-5 overall record and 2-0 in BIG EAST competition.
On Friday afternoon at the Sidwell Friends School, the two conferences foes went back-and-forth before Ryota Kaneda sealed it for the Johnnies. The freshman registered a three-set victory over the Hoyas Scott Bickel on the no. 4 court, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.
In doubles play, St. John's pulled out two of three matches to garner the point. Ignacio Garcia and Dylan Loru contributed to the cause, after edging Georgetown's Akira Morgenstern and Andrew Rozanov, 7-6 (8-6). Vlad Vasilache and Carl Gustavsson posted the second win in partner play after a 6-4 decision.
Garcia and Vasilache each notched straight set wins on the no. 2 and 3 courts, respectively. The 2021 All-BIG EAST selection Garcia outlasted Rozanov, 7-5, 6-2, for his 11th individual win on the year. Vasilache prolonged an impressive stretch where he has beaten nine of his last 10 opponents. The freshman grabbed a win over Jake Fellows, 6-4, 6-1, before Kaneda clinched the win.
The Johnnies will now set their sights on the BIG EAST Championships presented by Jeep, which are scheduled for April 21-24 at the Cayce Fitness and Tennis Center.
