St. John’s to Welcome Fairleigh Dickinson for Midweek Contest

Red Storm and Knights to face off for first time in three years
QUEENS, N.Y.- After playing three hard-fought contests against conference opponent Creighton, the St. John's baseball team will continue an eight-game homestand on Wednesday when it hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in midweek action. First pitch from Jack Kaiser Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
The game will feature an audio broadcast with Marc Ernay on the call. That broadcast, along with live stats, will be available on RedStormSports.com.
Joe Mascio will make his third start of the season against the Knights with all three coming in midweek contests. The freshman lefthander has allowed two runs or fewer in his previous four weekday appearances. The Sewell, N.J., native is one of three Red Storm pitchers with two wins or more this season.
The team's new leader in batting average, Kevin Michaels is currently hitting .345 with a squad-best 34 RBIs. The redshirt sophomore also paces the Johnnies with a .563 slugging percentage and a .969 OPS. The Encinitas, Calif., native hit his fifth home run of the season in Thursday's series opener against Creighton, putting him second on the team in round trippers. The everyday shortstop ranks sixth in the BIG EAST in RBI average, tallying 1.06 RBIs per game and has accounted for two or more RBIs in a team-high 10 games.
Sitting just behind Michaels in batting average is Tate Ballestero, who is hitting a solid .341 with 19 RBIs. The Morristown, N.J., native boasts a team-leading 46 base hits and has logged two hits or more in 14 starts for the Johnnies. Ballestero is tied for the most doubles on the roster with nine two-base hits. Beyond the power, the Virginia transfer also gets on base at an impressive rate, owning an on-base percentage of .430.
David Glancy leads the Red Storm with eight home runs and 31 runs scored. The redshirt sophomore also paces the Johnnies with 77 total bases. Glancy is one of three hitters to own a batting average of .300 or better and is one of two position players to start all 36 games this season.
Jackson Tucker continues to provide stability at the top of the lineup, leading the Johnnies with 25 walks in 31 starts this season. The freshman outfielder draws an average of 0.78 base-on-balls per contest, good for third in the BIG EAST.
On the mound, freshman Dylan Johnson impressed in his fifth start of the season in game two of Saturday's doubleheader against Creighton, tossing 4.2 innings of one-run ball with a career-high seven strikeouts. Over the last 13 frames of work, Johnson has allowed a combined 4 runs with an ERA of 2.77 in that stretch.
