Johnnies will face the Hoyas on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports
QUEENS, N.Y. (April 22, 2022)- The St. John's lacrosse team will venture to the nation's capital to meet no. 2/2 Georgetown at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Saturday's tilt from Cooper Field will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports. Jeremy Huber and Earl Weaver will have the call from Washington D.C.
Last weekend, St. John's fell to no. 19/18 Denver, 18-4, as the Pioneers kept the Red Storm attack in check at Peter Barton Stadium, in a contest that marked midway point of BIG EAST play for both programs. Caleb Zuhoski led the team with three points. The sophomore dished out a trio of assists all in the third quarter in the Mile High City
For the ninth consecutive outing, freshman goalkeeper Kaden Quirk finished in double-figures, as he steered away 15 shots. The rookie ranks third in the conference and 29th in NCAA Division I with 12.33 stops per game. On April 2 against no. 19 Villanova, the Nahant, Mass., native set a new season-high with 18 saves against the Wildcats offense.
Jonathan Huber continues to make a habit of piling goals this season. Huber ranks second for the single-game high of any player in NCAA Division I lacrosse this season, after his onslaught of eight goals against Marquette on April 9.
After leading the team in goal-scoring in 2021, the veteran has been firing on all cylinders, as he has tallied 34 goals and six assists through 12 games. He recorded one goal and one assist in the loss at Denver to reach the 40-point mark for the season.
The attackman sits six goals shy of tying the all-time program record for most goals in a single season, since the program's reinstatement in 2005. Stefan Diachenko fired in 40 tallies during the 2015 season.
Georgetown comes into the match-up ranked second in the nation and boasts an 11-1 record on the season. The Hoyas slayed through their schedule, defeating five ranked opponents during the 2022 campaign, thus far. The three-time reigning BIG EAST Champions present a stifling defense, as they lead the country in scoring defense allowing just 8.25 goals per game.
Sitting at no. 2 in both national polls, Georgetown will be the highest-ranked opponent St. John's has faced since 2015, when it fell to no. 1 Syracuse, 14-6.
Saturday will mark the 22nd time and the 18th straight season these two schools have met on the lacrosse field. The Red Storm last defeated their conference foes in 2016, when it outlasted the Hoyas, 8-5, in a defensive battle.
The road contest will mark the ninth and final time the Johnnies will play away from home this season. The Red Storm will host Providence on April 30 for a Senior Day battle.
