St. John’s Readies for Thursday Night Match Against Butler

Red Storm carry a three-match unbeaten streak into Thursday’s contest
QUEENS, N.Y.- St. John's women's soccer team will carry a three-match unbeaten streak into Thursday night's home contest against Butler.
The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Belson Stadium with Drew Casey on the call on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
The Red Storm had a flare for the dramatic in last week's BIG EAST contests scoring goals in the final minutes to garner a result in the final minutes. At Creighton on Thursday night, Angelina Scoma headed home the game-winner off a cross from Lauryn Tran to down the Bluejays, 3-2. On Sunday, it was Frederique St.-Jean who buried the corner from Jessica Garziano to salvage a 2-2 draw against Providence with just 1:27 left to play.
St. John's brings a 7-4-3 record and a 2-3-1 mark in conference play into Thursday's contest. The Johnnies have earned seven points and are right in the thick of the playoff race as six schools are separated by just three points in the league table.
The potent Red Storm attack has tallied seven goals over its last three matches and two of the last three defenses that had allowed 10 goals or less prior to facing high-scoring Johnnies' offense. The squad ranks first in the conference in goals scored (26), assists (32) and points (84). The assist mark currently ranks top-20 in the country out of 336 schools.
After a pair of assists on Sunday, Garziano continues to climb the national leaderboard currently ranking seventh in the country with nine. Among active career leaders, the midfielder ranks fourth in NCAA Division I with 31 career helpers.
Goaltender Maria O'Sullivan enjoyed a strong stretch last week tallying 12 saves and a 1-0-1 record between the pipes. The Ballincollig, Ireland native logged a season-high seven stops while facing 20 shots against Creighton in Omaha. The season-best sat just one save shy of her career-high she set while at Fordham.
Butler makes the trip to Queens with a 5-4-4 record on the year suffered its first BIG EAST defeat on Sunday. The Bulldogs were outlasted by DePaul, 2-1 and fell to 1-1-3 in league play. Norah Jacomen has been the main catalyst for the squad's attack totaling seven goals, which ranks tied for second in the BIG EAST.

In last year's meeting, the Red Storm won in Indianapolis, 3-1, on Oct. 13, 2022.
