St. John’s Welcomes Providence for Senior Day

10 Red Storm players will be honored pre-game at Belson Stadium
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 7, 2023) – Following Thursday's late game-winner in a crucial road win at Creighton, the St. John's women's soccer team will return home for a Senior Day contest at Belson Stadium.
The Red Storm will take on Providence at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Drew Casey on the call. Prior to the game 10 players will be honored in a ceremony beginning at 12:35 p.m.
Isabelle Aviza, Ava Collins, Jessica Garziano, Nicole Gordon, Sydney Moore, Nicole Multer, Maria O' Sullivan, Angelina Scoma, Frederique St.-Jean and Katherine Turner will be recognized for all their accomplishments over the years.
The Red Storm are riding a two-game conference winning streak after Thursday's dramatic victory over Creighton, 3-2. The Bluejays rallied back from a 2-0 deficit before Angelina Scoma headed home the game-winning goal, the first score of her career with 2:03 left to play at Morrison Stadium.
O' Sullivan had an incredible performance between the pipes on Thursday tallying a season-high seven saves, including crucial stops down the stretch to keep the score level.. Her seven
Collins and Athina Sofroniou recorded goals in the opening half for the Johnnies to build a 2-0 lead. Aviza and Jailene DeJesus earned the assists on the opening goal and Lauryn Tran provided the helper on Scoma's game-winner.
The Red Storm attack has fired in five goals over the last two games and 13 over the last seven. St. John's currently leads the BIG EAST in goals (24), assists (30) and points (78). St. John's assist number ranks top-20 in the country.
Tran has continued to emerge during her junior campaign. After not recording a single point over her first two seasons in Queens, the midfielder ranks second in the league with five assists and fourth in points with 13.
Providence comes into the match with a 7-2-2 record and a 2-0-2 mark in league competition. In their last outing the Friars drew with DePaul, 1-1, on Thursday night in the Windy City. Ella McBride provided the go-ahead goal before the Blue Demons equalized in the 88th minute. Providence's two league wins have come against Seton Hall and Creighton.
2022 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection Meg Hughes leads the Friars in scoring netting six goals far this season, which ranks fourth in the league.
Defensively, Providence has only allowed six goals all season and boasts a 0.55 goals against average.
Providence is the most frequently played opponent in the history of the St. John's women's soccer program as Sunday will mark the 39th all-time between the two conference foes. The series is tightly contested with the Johnnies' holding a narrow advantage 17-16-5, earning wins in the last three meetings.
Last year, St. John's grabbed a 1-0 win on the road courtesy of an unassisted tally from Molly Feighan in the 62nd minute.
