Men’s Tennis Earns a Pair of 7-0 Sweeps Against Wagner

The Red Storm will travel to Army for a pair of matches
QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 10, 2023) – The St. John's men's tennis team earned a pair of 7-0 sweeps against Wagner in a doubleheader at USTA Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
 
With the win, the Red Storm improves to 5-1 on the season, and will head to Army for a pair of matches against Army and Marist on Sunday.
 
In a dominant showing by the Red Storm, 11 different Johnnies earned a win. St. John's finished the day with three players earning three wins on the day. Sergio Molina earned a pair of wins in doubles partnered with Nishant Dabas in match one and Carl Gustafsson in match two, as well as earning a singles victory at the no. 2 slot in the first contest against Mehra, 6-1, 6-2. Diogo Marques and Dabas each earned two singles wins and a doubles win.
 
Seven Johnnies registered a pair of wins. Carl Gustafsson won two doubles matches with two different partners, after being named BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week on Monday. Alex Verdasco earned his first two wins in a day both coming in singles.
 
Four Johnnies earned their first singles victory, and five of the six doubles partnerships won their first match of the season as well. Overall in singles play, Molina touts the best perfect record in singles play at 4-0, while Dabas matches him with four wins, but also has a loss.
