Jackson Tucker hits first home run of the season with three-run shot in sixth

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team downed at Hofstra, 17-5, at University Field on Tuesday.

Jace Jeremiah paced the Johnnies with a 3-for-4 day at the dish, chipping in one tally. Aaron Mann joined the Red Storm shortstop in the multi-hit column, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Center fielder Jackson Tucker knocked in three of St. John's five runs on the day with his first home run of the season.

After an empty first inning, Hofstra (12-19) unloaded 11 runs on eight hits, including a grand slam by Brian Morrell.

The Red Storm (17-13) tallied one run in the top of the third after Orbon ripped a two-out RBI triple down the right-field line to break the scoreless drought.

Both teams were held off the board until the Pride put a two-spot up in the fifth.

The Johnnies retaliated with one run in the top of the sixth. After Glancy sent a deep fly ball to left and settled for a one-out double, the Johnnies' left fielder swiped third while Austin Machado walked, putting runners on the corners. With two outs, Mann laced a 1-1 pitch up the middle for an RBI single and slashed St. John's deficit, 13-2.

In the top of the seventh, Kevin Michaels and Jeremiah registered back-to-back singles before Tucker smashed a three-run shot to right and brought the Johnnies to within eight, 13-5.

The Pride responded with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the seventh and another two runs in the eighth for a 17-5 lead. Hofstra closed the door in the ninth and held on for the victory.

The Red Storm will return to action this weekend when BIG EAST foe Seton Hall visits Jack Kaiser Stadium for a three-game set, beginning on Friday, April 14. First pitch for Friday's contest is slated for 3 p.m.
