Four Johnnies registered three RBIs apiece
The team's 19 runs are the most in a game since putting up 22 against LIU on March 15.
Marty Higgins, Jace Jeremiah, Blake Mayberry and Paul Orbon each drove in three runs on the afternoon while David Glancy, Jimmy Keenan and Aaron Mann touched home plate three times on Wednesday. Orbon also chipped in three hits on the afternoon, including his third home run of the year.
The Johnnies (19-15) broke the game open with a six-run opening frame. Following an RBI single from Mann and a bases-loaded walk to Keenan, Higgins roped a two-run double to take a 4-0 lead. Paul Orbon drove in two more on a single down the left-field line, pushing the Red Storm advantage to six.
St. John's tacked on another seven runs in the second inning, seeing Ballestero get the stretch started after hammering a deep double to the left-center gap and bringing David Glancy around to score for a 7-0 edge. After Keenan slapped an RBI single to right, Higgins knocked in another run and reached on an error by the shortstop. The Johnnies poured it on with a three-run double by Jeremiah and an RBI groundout from Paul Orbon for a 13-0 lead.
Starter Dylan Johnson worked 1-2-3 frames in his two innings of work, tossing 18 pitches and striking out two to earn the victory.
The elder Orbon launched a solo shot in the fourth, bumping the Red Storm lead to 14.
Fairleigh Dickinson (21-13-1) broke the scoreless drought with a five-spot in the home half of the fourth, trailing by nine, 14-5. The Johnnies kept the Knights at bay shortly after, allowing just one combined baserunner over the next two frames.
Austin Machado drove in the Red Storm's 15th run of the game, slapping a single to right in the fifth and bringing Mann home for a double-digit lead. Neither team put a tally on the board until Jackson Tucker did all the work to score in the eighth, doubling to center, swiping third and advancing home on a wild pitch for a 16-5 lead. Four batters later, Blake Mayberry smashed a three-run shot to center, his first of the season, for a 19-5 lead.
FDU did not go down without a fight in the final frame. The Knights loaded the bases but ultimately fell short for the Johnnies' 14-run victory. Relievers Jake Alfaro, Vincent Bianchi, Ben Adams and Chuck Sanzio held FDU off the board with a scoreless inning apiece over the final four frames.
The Red Storm will return to action this weekend, heading to Charles Schwab Field Omaha, home of the NCAA Men's College World Series, to take on Creighton in a three-game set, beginning on Friday.
