QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's baseball team will celebrate Senior Day on Wednesday evening when Iona comes to Queens for a 6 p.m. showdown.
The midweek game will be streamed on ESPN3 and live stats will be made available on RedStormSports.com. Thirteen Johnnies will be recognized on Wednesday in a pregame ceremony slated to begin at approximately 5:40 p.m.
St. John's (23-23) is coming off a tough weekend against Villanova despite securing a 13-3 victory on Sunday. In the seven-inning affair, First baseman Aaron Mann smacked three doubles in the series finale, becoming the first player to do so since Rudy Aguilar against Kansas on March 17, 2019. The Little Rock, Ark., native also chipped in four RBIs and four runs scored. Jace Jeremiah and Luke Orbon rounded out the run production with three RBIs apiece.
Mann continues to pace the BIG EAST with his .379 batting average, sitting inside the top 100 in the nation. The Johnnies' first baseman has also logged 21 multi-hit games this season while ranking second in conference with 64 base knocks. He also secured a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection on Monday after slashing .429/.579/.786 with six RBIs and seven runs in four starts for the Red Storm against Columbia and Villanova.
Since the start of conference play against UConn on April 6, David Glancy has reached base safely in 18 straight games. Over that span, the Johnnies' outfielder has accumulated 24 hits, 14 for extra bases, with a team-best 22 runs scored to go with 12 RBIs.
Austin Machado has been a steady presence in the middle of the Johnnies' lineup this season, reaching elite company with his ability to reach base safely. Through 37 appearances this season, the Californian boasts a .503 on-base percentage, ranking 33rd in the nation and, should it hold through the rest of the season, will become the seventh player to register an OBP over .500 since 1976. Machado also paces the team with 36 walks.
The Red Storm will look to extend its winning streak to 15 games when Iona visits the Jack on Wednesday. St. John's holds a 60-11 overall record over the Gaels while managing a 38-4 record in Queens.
In their last meeting with Iona (11-31), the Johnnies unloaded a 13-3 victory behind a career-high four RBIs from Jeremiah. Corner outfielders Jermaine White and Paul Orbon also set new personal bests with three tallies apiece.
Iona (11-33) enters the midweek matchup having dropped two of three against Rider, securing an 11-8 win on Saturday. The Gaels have earned two victories against BIG EAST schools this season, knocking off Villanova with a doubleheader sweep on March 26.
Senior Jake Field continues to swing a hot bat, pacing the team with a .373 batting average, 60 base knocks, 32 runs scored and 44 RBIs. The Gaels' utilityman has also mashed eight homers this season along with 15 doubles and four triples.
