2/12/2024 4:22:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
The Red Storm and Pride have faced off each of the past 14 seasons
The St. John's lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time in 2024 on Tuesday when it faces Hofstra at 6 p.m. at James M. Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y.
The game will be streamed live on FloSports with Jack Sargent on the call. Live stats will be available at RedStormSports.com
The Red Storm (0-2) dropped its second game of the season on Saturday against Quinnipiac, 17-11. Brian Kelly, Bobby Seel and Caleb Zuhoski each had four-point outings for the Red Storm. Kelly picked up the ninth hat trick of his career and added an assist while Seel and Zuhoski each scored two goals and tallied a pair of helpers.
Kelly's four points gave him 96 for his career, moving him into 17th place on the Red Storm's all-time scoring list. The junior needs one point to tie Rich Hegler (1982-1985) for 16th place, two points to tie George Wichelns (1992-1993) for 15th place and three points to tie John Salerno (1991-1992) for 14th place. Four points will give Kelly 100 for his career and would make him the 14th player in program history to hit the century mark.
Freshman Richie Reid scored his second goal in as many games on Saturday and Utah transfer Drew Wasserman found the back of the net for the first time in a St. John's uniform. Sophomore defenseman Harry Noel recorded the first point of his career by assisting on Reid's score.
Adam Dembicki took the majority of faceoffs for the Red Storm and won 15-of-21 draws against the Bobcats. The freshman's 15 wins at the faceoff 'X' are the most by a Johnnie since Jake Oemcke won 17 against Marquette on March 5, 2022. The 18 faceoffs St. John's won against the Bobcats are the most in a game since winning 21 draws against LIU on Feb. 22, 2020.
For the second game in a row, the Red Storm excelled on the clear, converting on 17-of-19 attempts. Through two games this season, St. John's has converted 41-of-45 opportunities. The Red Storm's 91 percent success mark on the clear this season is the highest success percentage through the first two games of the season since the Johnnies had a 92 percent successful clear rate after the first two contests of 2020.
After dismantling Wager in its season opener, 21-9, on Feb. 3, Hofstra fell this past Saturday to Navy, 16-8. The Pride offense is led by Rory Jones who tallied nine points and eight goals against Wagner. Colton Rudd also has nine points on the year while John Madsen has five goals through two games for the high-powered Hofstra offense. Faceoff specialist Chase Patterson was named a CAA Preseason Honorable Mention and has won 21-of-41 faceoffs through the Pride's first two games.
Last season, Hofstra finished 5-9 and 3-4 in CAA play.
The Pride is led by Head Coach Seth Tierney in his 18th season. Tierney has led the program to four NCAA Tournaments throughout his tenure.
The Red Storm have won six meetings all-time against their local rivals from Nassau County. In last season's matchup in Queens, Hofstra came out on top, 16-12. Kelly and Zuhoski tallied hat tricks for the Red Storm in the loss.
After Tuesday's matchup on Long Island, the Red Storm will return home to face No. 16/15 Delaware on Saturday. Faceoff from DaSilva Memorial Field is set for 1 p.m.
