St. John’s to Take Part in the Penn Relays

The Red Storm will return to the Penn Relays after a one-year hiatus
QUEENS, N.Y. – After a one-year hiatus, the St. John's track & field team will take part in the annual Penn Relays. The meet will be held at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvanian in Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday.
The longest-running outdoor track and field competition in the United States is set to kick off on Thursday at 9 a.m. St. John's will begin competition at the meet on Friday afternoon.
The Red Storm will make its first appearance at the Penn Relays since 2022 when the program took third place in its heats in the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. The Johnnies' finishing time of 3:42.03 in the 4x400-meter relay was a season-best in 2022.
St. John's excelled in split-team action last weekend between the Virginia Challenge and the Mark Young Invitational. As a team, the Johnnies secured 12 top-five finishes between the two meets.
The Red Storm placed fourth at the Mark Young Invitational after racking up 81 total points. Maja Henry took home first place in the discus after posting a career-record 43.35-meter toss. In the shot put, Henry and Juliet Smith took the top two spots with identical 13.10-meter marks.
Karese Lloyd, Leilani Robinson, Blessing Assoumany, Sophia Leslie, Kara Sampath, Gabriella Caronia and Fia Viklund all enter the final stretch of the outdoor season after setting new personal-best results across seven different events at Yale's home meet.
At the Virginia Challenge, both the program's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads each registered season-best times of 46.06 and 3:44.23, respectively, to earn fifth-place finishes. Nia Holden took ninth place in the 800-meter run, finishing the race in a personal record 2:11.60.
In the 200-meter dash, the Red Storm tallied two season-best finishes and a personal-best finish. Chinenye Onourah finished the event in a season-best 24.56 seconds, while Brooklyn Chestnut logged a season-best finishing time of 24.87 seconds. Tea Siehou rang up a collegiate-best mark of 25.64 seconds.
Following the Penn Relays, the Red Storm will compete in its final home meet, The Tom Farrell Classic on May 4 at DaSilva Memorial Field in Queens, N.Y.
