Nora Haugen Wins 800-Meter Run at South Florida Invitational

Haugen posted a 2:06.12 finish in the 800 meters
TAMPA, Fla. – The St. John's track & field team shined at USF's South Florida Invitational at the USF Track & Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla., on Saturday afternoon.
As a team, the Johnnies tallied a win in the 800-meter run with nine top-10 finishes at USF's annual home meet.
Nora Haugen nabbed a gold medal in the 800-meter run on Saturday at the South Florida Invitational. The talented junior from Norway beat out her competition with a 2:06.12 finish. Leyre Campo de Quevedo placed fourth, completing the event in a season-best 2:11.46, while Leilani Robinson ended her day in ninth by matching her career-best mark of 2:12.65.
The Red Storm's 4x400-meter relay squad of Haugen, Nyla Henderson, Chinenye Onuorah and Robinson finished in second place after racing to a 3:39.59 finish.
Jamora Alves had herself a day in the shot put, ringing up a throw of 15.43 meters for second place in the event. Juliet Smith came in 16th off a toss of 11.89 meters.
Alves continued to impress, this time providing a season-best launch of 52.07 meters for third place in the discus. In the hammer throw, Smith tallied a career-best heave of 44.43 meters for 13th place.
In the 5,000-meter run, Campo de Quevedo continued her impressive day in Florida with a fourth place 17:09.61 finishing time.
Chinenye Onuorah showed out in the 400-meter dash, pacing the race in 54.10 seconds for sixth place. Jalen Jackson and Nyla Henderson placed 19th and 20th, finishing the competition in personal best efforts of 56.60 and 56.80 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Djassi Dean led the Johnnies with a career-best 12th-place mark of 1:02.93. Maddie Kelso-Heap ended the race in 17th on a finishing time of 1:03.98.
In the triple jump, Fia Viklund logged a 14th-place effort on a major personal-best leap of 12.02 meters. Linn Hertz and Cassandra Lemus-Sodji finished back-to-back in 16th and 17th place in the long jump. Hertz posted a season-best leap of 5.50 meters, while Lemus-Sodji registered a 5.43-meter jump.
Jackson led the Red Storm in the 200-meter dash, putting up a career-record 24.04-second finishing time for 16th overall in the event. Karese Lloyd rounded out the Red Storm's effort in the 200 meters, finishing the race in a personal-best 25.60 seconds.
Lloyd recorded a career-best 12.13-second finish for 38th in the 100-meter dash at the USF Track & Field Stadium.
The Red Storm will be back in return to action next Friday when it begins competition at the UConn Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Conn.
