UConn started the scoring with a two-spot in the top of the second inning. After the Huskies loaded the bases from a walk, a single and a defensive error, an RBI fielder's choice and another miscue plated a pair of runners, giving them an early 2-0 edge.
The Johnnies retaliated with a two-run bottom of the second frame. With one out, Cowan reached first base on an error by UConn's third baseman before Agresti cranked a two-run homer over the center field wall, tying the game, 2-2.
In the top of the fourth, UConn tacked on another two runs to retake the lead. Two runners found themselves on base with a double and a hit-by-pitch, as Connor Lane struck an RBI single up the middle to retake the lead. Another run scored from a sacrifice bunt, as the Huskies grew their advantage to two, 4-2.
St. John's chopped down its deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth. Agresti worked a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. The Red Storm's catcher was waved around home after two Huskies collided, letting a ball drop into center field to trail, 4-3.
The Huskies extended their lead in the top of the fifth, using three solo long balls and an RBI single. In the sixth, UConn added another three tallies, from a pair of RBI base hits and an RBI double to go ahead by eight, 11-3.
In the away side of the eighth stanza, the Huskies hit a three-run homer to right field, pushing their advantage to 14-3. The Johnnies couldn't generate any base runners in the bottom of the eighth, as UConn took the game at the end of the inning due to travel cutoff time restrictions.
The Red Storm will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 29, when it hosts Iona for a midweek contest. First pitch from Jack Kaiser Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
