Jared Beebe went 3-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs

QUEENS, N.Y. – Adam Agresti's 11^th-inning walk-off sacrifice fly propelled the St. John's baseball team (21-20, 6-6 BIG EAST) past Iona (14-28, 8-13 MAAC), 6-5, on Tuesday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium in Queens, N.Y.

Jared Beebe had a spectacular day, going 3-for-6 at the plate, falling a triple shy of the cycle with a double and a home run, alongside four RBIs and three runs scored. Luke Orbon hit a double and worked a walk in the contest. Agresti tallied an RBI against the Gales, coming off the game-winning sacrifice fly.

In his first start since March 18, Anthony Brienza tallied a hit, a score and a walk at Jack Kaiser Stadium. Jackson Tucker also notched a hit, a tally and a free pass with a stolen base, while Jon LeGrande stole four bags alongside a double and a walk on Tuesday.

Jacob Ruiz picked up the first win of his collegiate career, tossing an inning of no-hit ball with one unearned run.

Louis Marinaro and Dylan Johnson cruised through the first three innings, limiting Iona to no runs, only one hit and a pair of punchouts. The Johnnies jumped in front in the bottom of the third frame with a three-spot. After Brienza and Tucker reached on a pair of singles, Beebe crushed a towering three-run homer that hit the top of the scoreboard, giving the Red Storm a 3-0 edge.

The Gaels tied the game in the top of the fourth stanza. Iona strung together four hits and a hit-by-pitch, including a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to knot things up, 3-3.

The Johnnies threatened with runners on the corners in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Orbon doubled into deep left field, ahead of Brienza working a five-pitch walk. Orbon moved over to third on a flyout, but Iona's starter Danny Onorato retired the side with a popup.

The Gaels took the lead in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Matt Wessels started the rally with a single, while Sean Stephenson brought him around to score on an RBI double that put Iona in front, 4-3.

The Johnnies put two runners into scoring position in the bottom of the sixth inning. LeGrande worked a two-out walk and stole second, while Tucker was issued a free pass of his own in the ensuing at-bat. LeGrande and Tucker proceeded to notch a double steal, but Iona neutralized the scoring opportunity with a strikeout.

The Johnnies tied things up in the home half of the seventh frame. Beebe led off the inning by whacking a single into right field and advancing to second on a wild pitch. Will Cowan and Orbon both walked, loading the bases ahead of the Gaels tossing a wild pitch that plated Beebe and evened the game, 4-4.

After scoreless eighth, ninth and 10^th innings, Iona reclaimed the advantage in the away side of the 11^th frame. Two Gaels reached on an error and a walk and moved over into scoring position on a groundout. The lead runner scored on a passed ball, as the away squad retook the lead, 5-4.

In the bottom of the 11^th, Jayder Raifstanger worked a leadoff walk, giving a base runner to Beebe who slugged an RBI double to the right-center field wall to plate Raifstanger. Beebe then advanced to third on a flyout, as Agresti sent a game-winning sacrifice fly into right field, giving the Johnnies a 6-5 walk-off victory.

The Red Storm will hit the road to Washington D.C., for a three-game set against Georgetown this weekend. The series will begin on Friday at 7:30 p.m. from Capitol One Park.
