Bower made another stellar stop sprawling out for her second save of the night halting the oncoming shot from two-time All-American Chioma Okafor in the 21st minute.
The Red Storm earned its first opportunity of the evening off a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box. Steindórsdóttir played a ball into the back post as the reigning BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recipient Vallecillo steered a header toward the goalmouth before it was cleared away by UConn in the 37th minute.
Shortly after, the Huskies earned a penalty kick after a video review as the attempt from the spot was stopped by Bower. The senior captain guessed correctly diving to the right side of the net to captured the strike and keep the score level.
The Huskies tallied a pair of goals in the final minutes of the opening stanza just 1:11 apart to carry at a 2-0 advantage into the locker room.
In the latter half, Bower made another highlight-reel save leaving her feet to swat a headed strike away from danger.
Steindórsdóttir recorded the most threatening opportunity for the Johnnies firing a free kick off the crossbar. The sophomore defender delivered another scoring chance, launching a free kick from 50 yards out that nearly soared past the Huskies' goalkeeper.
The Red Storm will be back in action on Wednesday night when it welcomes Providence to Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium for a 7 p.m. kick on ESPN+.
