Red Storm is fresh off 1-1 draw with Providence on Wednesday night
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's soccer team (2-4-3, 0-1-1 BIG EAST) hits the road for a 1 p.m. road match-up with Seton Hall at Owen T. Carroll Field on Saturday.
The Red Storm travel to South Orange, N.J., seeking their first BIG EAST victory of the 2025 campaign after beginning the season 0-1-1 in league play. St. John's departs from Queens after drawing with Providence on Wednesday, 1-1.
In the conference home opener, sophomore defender Telma Steindórsdóttir scored her first career goal, converting from the penalty spot with 0.9 seconds remaining in the first half. Her strike marked the Red Storm's first successful penalty kick of the season, knotting the score at one and eventually resulting in the Johnnies' third draw thus far.
Senior goalkeeper Kayla Bower tied her career-high with six saves, matching her total from Sept. 7's clash with Monmouth. Bower ranks first in the BIG EAST in saves, averaging 4.78 per contest. She's logged four or more saves in eight of her nine appearances this season, was tabbed the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 1 and made a weekly honor roll appearance on Aug. 25.
Sophomore forward Madison Mariani leads the Johnnies with 12 shot attempts, including 11 on target (91.7%). The sophomore has tallied a team-high two goals and an assist (5 points) through nine games. The underclassmen have contributed heavily on the attacking end with 15 of the Johnnies' 16 points this season coming from freshmen and sophomores.
Saturday marks the 32nd meeting between the two programs. St. John's leads the all-time series 22-7-2 and holds a 2-2-1 record across their last five meetings with Seton Hall.
In last year's meeting in Queens, Jailene DeJesus recorded a brace in the 2-2 draw on Sept. 29, 2024.
The Pirates are 3-3-4 to begin the 2025 campaign. After opening the season with three straight wins over Monmouth, Iona and Drexel, Seton Hall is currently on a three-match skid, including an 0-2 start to BIG EAST play following losses to Villanova and Georgetown.
The hosts are led by junior midfielder Gianna Angelillo, sophomore midfielder/forward Nina Davis and freshman goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith, each of whom has been recognized in the 2025 BIG EAST Honor Roll. Angelillo ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in goals (0.71) and points per game (1.43).
Following Saturday's match, the Red Storm travel to Milwaukee, Wis., for an 8 p.m. ET bout with Marquette on Oct. 1.
