The Red Storm and Blue Hens will meet for the fourth straight year
QUEENS N.Y. — The St. John's lacrosse team will host its first contest in Queens on Saturday when the Red Storm welcome Delaware on Valentines Day.
Faceoff from Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium is set for 1 p.m. Saturday's matchup against Delaware marks the fourth consecutive season the two programs will meet. St. John's (0-1) is seeking its first win in program history over the Blue Hens.
On Saturday, the program will honor the memory of former Siena Head Coach Liam Gleason, who passed away in December at the age of 41. In accordance with the Intercollegiate Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (IMCLA) the St. John's coaching staff will wear LG lapel pins during the Saturday's contest in memory of his life and impact on the game of lacrosse.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Ethan Berch on the call from Queens. Admission is free for all fans.
The Red Storm dropped its season opener to NJIT, 17-10, on Sunday at Mount Olive High School in Flanders, N.J. Redshirt freshman Noah Plenn impressed in his collegiate debut, recording
four goals and two assists on six shots on goal. Plenn became the first Johnnie freshman to register a hat trick since Ryan Ormond scored six goals against NJIT on Feb. 8, 2025.
All-BIG EAST Preseason selection, Adrian Nowak, carried his offensive momentum into the new campaign, tallying two goals and an assist on three shots on net. The redshirt junior extended his active point streak to 16 games and has now scored in six consecutive contests dating back to March 29, 2025, at Marquette.
Ormond and Jake Wright each posted multi-point performances, with Wright notching two goals and an assist, while Ormond added a goal and an assist against the Highlanders. Freshman Brody Hergott made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, dishing out two assists.
St. John's was efficient on the man advantage, converting all three extra-man opportunities. It marked the first time since Feb. 15, 2025, against Delaware that the Red Storm recorded three extra-man goals in a single-game.
Defensively, Ryan Miele led the way with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in his first appearance for St. John's. Freshman Dylan Bender added two caused turnovers and three ground balls. The Red Storm posted an 82.1% clearing percentage, successfully converting 23-of-28 attempts.
Delaware enters the contest following a 7-6 campaign in 2025. The Blue Hens have opened the 2026 season 0-2 with losses to RV/RV Utah and Drexel. Despite the early setbacks, head coach Ben DeLuca returns the program's top five point-scorers from a year ago, including 2025 All-CAA First Team selection Brendan Powers and 2025 CAA All-Rookie Team honoree Bennett Parmer.
Powers paced Delaware with 53 points last season, totaling 37 goals and 16 assists on 109 shots, and has carried that offensive presence into 2026 with three goals in the season opener against Utah. Parmer impressed in his freshman campaign with 33 points on 16 goals and 17 assists and began his sophomore season with a two-goal effort against the Utes.
Defensively, the Blue Hens return 2025 All-CAA Second Team selection Nick Cowen and 2024 CAA All-Rookie Team member Louis Atkinson. Delaware has posted a 13.50 goals-against average and a .738 clearing percentage through two contests this season.
Following this weekend's matchup with Delaware, the Red Storm will have a quick turnaround, when it travels to Quinnipiac on Tuesday. Faceoff for the Johnnies first road contest of the year is set for 2 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
