Looking to maintain its winning record at home, the St. John's women's soccer team welcomes Xavier to Belson Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. matchup.
The Red Storm's (4-10-0, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) contest with the Musketeers (10-3-2, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) can be viewed on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi. The broadcast can also be accessed on BIG EAST's YouTube channel, Twitter handle and Caffeine channel (www.Caffeine.tv/BEDN).
St. John's enters Sunday's contest on the heels of three hard fought losses to BIG EAST opponents. Last Sunday afternoon against Butler, the Red Storm kept the high-powered Bulldogs offense off the board for 77 minutes before surrendering the game-winning tally in the 78th.
Zsani Kajan continues to lead the way offensively for the Red Storm. The redshirt junior has found the back of the net a team-high six times this season, including a pair of multi-goal performances.
With six goals so far this year, Kajan has bumped her career total up to 19. The Budapest, Hungary, native now ranks ninth on the program's all-time scoring list.
St. John's will look to defeat Xavier for the seventh-straight season, having topped the Musketeers every year since they joined the BIG EAST conference prior to the 2013 season. Most recently, the Johnnies recorded a 1-0 victory over Xavier last October off a goal by former St. John's standout, Christina Bellero.
Xavier enters Sunday's contest with a 10-3-2 record, posting 3-2-0 mark in conference play to rank third in the BIG EAST with nine points.
In Xavier's most recent win over Providence, Jenna Prathapa and Brooke Sroka both found the back of the net to lift the Musketeers to a 2-0 victory over the Friars. The Musketeers outshot Providence, 22-6, extending their conference-leading total to 247. Following its win over Providence, Xavier also took sole possession of first place in shutouts (8), goals against average (0.76) and goals allowed (0.80).
Leading the way for Xavier is the BIG EAST's leading scorer, Samantha Dewey. Her 12 goals and 27 points pace all conference opponents, as do her 4.13 shots per game.
Goalkeepers Toni Bizzarro and Olivia Jenkins have split time between the pipes this season for Xavier. Bizzarro leads the league with a 0.48 goals against average to go along with five clean sheets this season.
