St. John’s Takes BIG EAST Opener Over Seton Hall, 7-0

Red Storm sweep the Pirates at the USTA National Tennis Center
QUEENS, N.Y.- The St. John's women's tennis team swept Seton Hall, 7-0, in its BIG EAST opener on Friday afternoon
The Red Storm (8-5, 1-0) took all eight completed matches at the USTA National Tennis Center en route to its eighth victory of the season. The Johnnies have won 19 of their last 20 contests against the Pirates (5-6, 0-1).
In doubles play, Emilie Haakansson and Mouna Bouzgarrou cruised to a 6-1 decision over Seton Hall's Chloe Hamlin and Aina Plana Ventosa. Camila Ordonez and Lalita Devarakonda tallied their second win as a pair in as many tries. The duo moved past the Pirates Hila Kronzon and Hiba El Khalifi, 6-2.
On the no. 1 court Bouzgarrou closed the door on Anna Gumerova in a straight set win, 6-2, 6-4. Devarakonda continued her strong stretch, as she edged Hamlin in a match that went three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. On the no. 3 court, Jayden Nielsen dominated the second set, 6-1, after a narrow victory in the first, 7-5, to best Ventosa.
In the no. 4 slot, Yesica de Lucas notched her seventh win of the year, with a 6-4, 6-3 scoreline against Seton Hall's Arabella Moen. Willa Bay Breunich logged consecutive 6-2 sets to outlast the Pirates El Khalifi. Ordonez grabbed the win on the no. 6 court over Kronzon, 6-1, 6-4.
Coming up next, the Johnnies will have a week before they welcome another conference foe in Georgetown on March 25 at the USTA National Tennis Center.
